Exterior only or both sides?

Exterior window cleaning addresses the outside face of the glass. An inside-and-out request adds the room-facing panes, where fingerprints and indoor residue can remain even after the outside is clean. Tell a contractor which result you want; do not assume a quote includes both sides.

For a Cambridge house, townhouse or condo, mention the property type, number of storeys and roughly how many windows need attention. If only selected rooms or a single side of the house need cleaning, say that too. For condo exterior work, first check who controls access and maintenance with your building manager.

Make the detail work explicit

Part of the jobWhat to confirm
Glass panesWhich windows, which sides and whether patio-door glass is included.
ScreensWhether removal, cleaning, drying and reinstallation are included; mention damaged or fixed screens.
Sills and framesWhether the work is a light wipe or a more detailed clean, and which surfaces are suitable.
Window tracksWhether loose-debris removal and detailed track cleaning are priced separately.
Special residueFlag paint, adhesive, mineral deposits or construction debris. Routine glass cleaning may not address these.

Access can change the plan

Upper-storey panes, a conservatory below a window, steep garden beds and locked side gates can affect the approach. Describe them when requesting a quote. The contractor should determine suitable equipment and safe access; do not climb to inspect or reach a window for a quote.

If a quote relies on a water source, interior entry or moving furniture, confirm that ahead of time. Mention pets and any access restrictions. For older homes with storm windows or delicate frames, explain how the window is assembled and ask what the contractor will and will not remove.

Before the appointment

  • Confirm the written scope and total, including taxes and any extra work.
  • Agree who will clear nearby objects and how interior access will work.
  • Ask how weather changes or unsuitable access affect the booking.
  • Discuss pre-existing damage before work begins and confirm the contractor’s insurance for the proposed work.

Compare the scope before the price

A lower quote can include fewer surfaces. Use the free quote-scope checklist to line up the details. If you need cleaning for business premises, the commercial guide covers opening hours, foot traffic and recurring visits.
